punkrock  

one of the most important things in my life is music. I really enjoy listening to music, watching videoclips and love to go to concerts. at home I always have a video tape in the recorder to record a good clip. unfortunately this happens seldom on viva-swizz or mtv. besides  crossover, new metal, gothic, wave and oldies, my favourite music style is punkrock. most of the punkrockbands have a singer, a drummer, one guy plays the accustic guitar and a fourth plays the bassguitar. I don’t know if you know any punkbands. famous bands are the offspring, blink 182, nofx, bad religion, pennywise, the sex pistols, the ramones, millencolin, lagwagon or green day. I’have created a homepage with a lot of stuff about some of this bands. the domain-name ist www.punkrock.ch. it’s only in german, expect the lyrics of course. it took me over a year until it was online but now I’m very happy with it and last month there were over 250 visitors (this was august 2001) on the website.  

why do I love it? I love the melodies, the speed, that just kicks ass, and often the lyrics of punkrocksongs are great to. originally punkbands sang about fucking the government, anarchy and other political stuff. that has changed a bit and so, there are not only people, who are afraid of everything that’s going on on this world, who listens to punk, but also people who just want to have fun. the real punks, who still stands for anarchy condemn the new punkrockbands like blink 182, that only sings about banally things. commercializing punkrock is a taboo, too. nofx neider makes videoclips nor promotions for their albums. although they have become rich but ditn’t lost their credibility. Besides punkrock is very simple made. I mean, three-accord-songs are the normality. but I don’t care at all, however I do care about the lyrics and I think it's great that pennywise ironicly called their last album “land of the free”. and that nofx will do a tour with some other punkbands, at the eastcoast, which is called “not our president-tour”. they had already planed the tour before september 11^th.  

california is a breeding-ground for punkrock, especially for melodic- and surfpunk. bad religion are from la, no use for a name are from san jose, nofx are from berkeley, the guys of blink 182 are from san diego and pennywise are from hermoso beach, which is a suburb of la. this was one reason, why I dicided to came here, but only a small one. typically for punkrock-concerts are stagediving and bodysurfing or crowdsurfing. stagediving is when you go up to the stage and jump into the croud and bodysurfing or crowdsurfing is when the crowd holds you up, over their heads and you just feel as you would fly. both isn’t very secure and often it isn’t allowed, but it’s just marvellous.

finally I have to say that I hate most of the pop songs, which are played by radiostations. it’s just nonsens. do you know, why they are called pop songs? of course it’s because they are popular. only a minority listens to punkmusic and radiostations don’t serve minoritys. but I won’t complain. this is what makes it special and interresting. being different rocks – being normal sucks!
